I believe the problem is that there are two different wiring standards (pin-outs) for 2.5mm audio plugs and jacks: stereo headphones (two earpieces and no mic) vs. stereo or mono telephone headsets (one or two earpieces and a mic). The 2.5mm male plug's tip and rings are the same dimensions/position, but wired differently.On a 2.5mm plug with a tip and two rings, the contacts can be wired as earpiece, mic and common, or as left earpiece, right earpiece and common. You'd need a 2.5mm plug with a tip and three rings for a stereo telephone phone headset, just like the 3.5mm version. Thus, an adapter such as this one will only work with one type of connection, and you cannot tell by looking at it. When they found out that this item had broken on me they immediately sent out a new one and an apology email. This is going above and beyond in my book. Unfortunately, the item itself is fundamentally flawed. The wire breaks at the male end after very little use. I've had a few of these so I know it's not just one faulty unit. I again want to stress how impressed I am with the seller. This particular item just happens to be a faulty design. |
