4.0 out of 5 stars Careful with compact fluorescents, April 22, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Intermatic EJ500C Indoor Digital Wall Switch Timer (Tools & Home Improvement)
The timer is electronic and works well with incandescent lighting. The reviews differ on using this timer with compact fluorescents, and the labeling states that it is NOT compatible.

Like many other electronic timers, it appears to "leak" current through the circuit even when off. That's ok with incandescents and the old magnetic ballasts, but CF with electronic ballasts flash when the switch is off.

A workaround if there is more than one bulb: include one ordinary incandescent bulb in the circuit (40 watt may be the minimum), and the compact fluorescents stop flashing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good timer, May 18, 2006

We purchased one of these four years ago to control our entry lights. That was the last time we touched it. The unit asks you to set the turn on - off times, and set the time and date when you install it, then you really don't have to do much else. With the auto adjust feature, it resets for daylight savings time, and one setting will automatically turn the lights on when it's getting close to dusk, then off at your preselected time - nice if you don't want to install a photocell or manually change start times throughout the year.

My only complaint is that the LCD screen is very small, particularly showing day of week, which means when you do decide to change times you'll have to really squint to see what you're doing. But fortunately, for most, this won't be a regular event.

4.0 out of 5 stars So Far, So Good, March 25, 2007
By

This review is from: Intermatic EJ500C Indoor Digital Wall Switch Timer (Tools & Home Improvement)
After going through three Intermatic SS8Cs in three years, I gave up on them and bought one of these. It's only been in a month so I can't speak to its long term reliability, but so far it's been working better than the SS8C. It's quieter - no mechanical switching (I guess it must be all electronic), it offers all the same programming options as the SS8C, plus it looks a bit sleeker on the wall. Not only that, it's cheaper than the SS8C by about $14. I did take off one star, though, because it's not DST 2007 compatible. I had to turn off its built-in DST feature and now I'll just manually spring forward and fall back.

Regarding compact fluorescent bulbs, last night we bought eight 40 watt-equivalent "n:vision" brand soft white compact fluorescent bulbs (9 watts, 550 lumens, green and white package) from Home Depot and installed them this morning. I was concerned they might not work since the packaging says the EJ500C is not compatible with compact fluorescent bulbs,... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars New firmware saves the day, August 21, 2011

This review is from: Dell Venue Pro Unlocked Phone with Windows 7 OS, 5MP Camera, GPS and FM Radio - Unlocked Phone - US Warranty - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
The Dell Venue Pro is emotionally difficult to review. This phone looked like a game changer--the prophesized device to rally the masses to the Windows Phone platform. Unfortunately, there have been previous issues with the phone that have caused it to just miss the mark. However, a recent Dell firmware update has restored my faith in the device. This review is based on using the phone for 7 months, and using it with the new firmware update for 1 month.

HARDWARE
From a purely visual standpoint, I'd say the DVP is....flat out cool. The 4.1" display is covered with slightly curved gorilla glass that both looks and feels great. The sides of the phone have a chrome metallic look (it's still plastic) and the back has a texture rich plastic cover with a repeating cut diamond pattern. The top and bottom are beveled with a rubberized coating. Plenty of thought went into the accents, color, and shape of this phone. I have to commend Dell here; they sure know how to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible fit and finish, May 13, 2011
This review is from: Dell Venue Pro Unlocked Phone with Windows 7 OS, 5MP Camera, GPS and FM Radio - Unlocked Phone - US Warranty - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I got this phone about a month ago and I could not be more pleased. I moved from the dismal 6.5 version of Windows Mobile to this new WP7 Dell device and it is like going from an old VW beetle to a brand new Porsche. I would say this is arguable the best looking device of all Windows 7 phones. The pullout keyboard is nice for when you need to type longer emails. A few obervations:

Battery life: very good considering the device. Lasts easilly all day with browsing and calling. Only strange thing is if you completely drain the battery to the point the phone shuts itself down, if you plug it back in, the phone won't power up at all for about 5 minutes! so not good if you run out of battery and need to make a call immediately.

Screen: extremely bright, clear and sharp. Scratch resistant

Quality of construction: Very solid device. The sliding motion feels really good and solid. Shiny metal on the edges makes it stand out.

Camera: Lame. Only... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Phone (post firmware update), September 2, 2011
This review is from: Dell Venue Pro Unlocked Phone with Windows 7 OS, 5MP Camera, GPS and FM Radio - Unlocked Phone - US Warranty - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This phone is excellent. I purchased this phone in early February of this year and immediately fell in love. Firstly, Windows Phone 7 software is amazing. It works just like the iphone in terms of amazing simplicity, but the presentation is much better. The facebook/contact integration is great and looks great. Zune is on par with itunes, but looks better. Everything looks better on this phone compared to Droid and Iphone, you just have to try it. Live tiles rock and will even get better with the Mango update coming in September.

Call quality is great. This phone has very good speakers, games are fun to play on the screen as it has the 2nd biggest screen on a Windows Phone, but is not too big.
The battery life last about 1 day, but a litte less with heavy usage, so have a charger at work and one at home.

The phone is a little heavy, but somehow it helps you from dropping it. It's true, I have not dropped this phone once. Probably because I obsesses about... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great TV for nerds, February 21, 2011

This review is from: Sony NSX-46GT1 46-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LED HDTV, Black (Electronics)
Let me start with this--If you're looking for the best possible high-end TV panel on the market, this TV probably isn't for you.

If you're looking for a TV with a lot of features that can most likely only get better with time, I would whole-heartedly recommend this panel.

Rather than write a long, drawn out review--I will mainly respond to the main criticisms about this panel as well as raise some of my own.

-Many complain about the 60hz refresh rate. I'm of the camp of thought that feels that TV refresh rates are mostly a marketing ploy. You can feel free to argue with me if you wish, but I don't have any qualms at all about the 60hz refresh rate for either TV watching OR gaming. I own a PS3 and motion is fluid AND natural--I personally feel that 120hz sets look 'fake'--also, many sets with higher refresh rates typically have higher input lag for gaming and that is another reason I would rather not buy a fast 120hz TV.

-I've read... Read more

This review is from: Sony NSX-46GT1 46-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LED HDTV, Black (Electronics)
ok guys i dont do much reviews but this tv deserve a worthy praise, first of all the internet apps is VERY good, that was the primary reason why i get this tv. second for those that worried about 60hz, i have news for you most TV services/ps3/xbox360 are in 720p/60hz so if you want to spend the extra 1080p or 120hz then by all mean, i dont see the difference. THIRD if you think this tv color are not vibrant, well try to tune it like this

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT for GAMING!, December 11, 2010
By
This review is from: Sony NSX-46GT1 46-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LED HDTV, Black (Electronics)
This tv looks pretty. The features are nice and the picture is clear. Blue ray looks wonderful and the tv speakers ain't half bad. The controller has a full keyboard with a motion sensitive scroller for mouse-like use. The controller reactions have slight delay, but that's no biggy. The biggy is when playing a game on this 60hz overpriced thing. I estimate there is about a 1/10th of a second delay between striking a button on my ps3 and the reaction you see on the screen. That may not sound like much, but if you are playing a fast action game like Modern Warfare 2, it is extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, that is a deal breaker for me. At this price, I should be able to play a PS3 game without problem...which is why this sucker is going back. If you are not a gamer or even a casual gamer, then this tv may suit your needs. If you are, go buy something with at least 120hz. The bare bones minimum of 60hz is a sad oversight for what could be a wonderful television... Read more
